This Old Fashioned cocktail recipe is frequented in our home. We love to rotate between a Wisconsin-style & Chicago-style Old Fashioned. Both are delicious, but I'm partial to the Chicago-style Old Fashioned - the whole recipe is outlined below!

Old Fashioned Cocktail Materials:

Old Fashioned Cocktail How-To:
1. Add ice, whiskey, bitters, and simple syrup to your mixing glass.
2. Using a bar spoon quickly stir the cocktail for 20 seconds to dilute & chill it.
3. Add a large ice cube to a rocks glass.
4. Using a Hawthorne strainer, strain the cocktail into your rocks glass.

Recipe FAQs:
What are the different Old Fashioned recipes?
Old-Fashioned recipes are typically pretty similar from place to place. The major difference between a Wisconsin-style or Chicago-style/Prohibition-style Old Fashioned is that in Wisconsin most places add Sprite to their cocktail! Chicago-style is more spirit-forward.
(You can order an Old-Fashioned sweet, sour, or press, but for this recipe we're focusing on sweet!)
What bitters for an Old Fashioned?
You can use any bitters you prefer, but we're partial to Angostura. If you want to spice your drink up, you can use different flavored bitters!
Should you use an Old Fashioned mix?
No! Old Fashioned cocktails are so simple to make & mixes aren't necessary. (or good... in our opinion!)

What liquor is used in an Old Fashioned?
You can use whiskey, specifically bourbon, or brandy! We love bourbon, but any of the above work.
What glass do you serve an Old Fashioned in?
You serve an Old Fashioned in a rocks glass. If you're looking for an affordable high-quality one, these from Amazon are our absolute favs!
