There are 2 keys to actually accomplishing your new years resolutions ideas. 1. Don't overcommit. Stick to just a couple new goals that are manageable and 2. Have a clear game plan.
We're making it super easy for you this year! We broke down some new year resolutions ideas into 4 different categories. Here's what you're going to do - pick 1 goal or "new year resolution" from each category. You should have 4 resolutions to start the year. Stick to just that goal until you've mastered it. When you're ready, you can add another from the same category.
If you struggle to stick to your goals, try out this method & see how it works for you!
This post is about new year resolutions ideas.
New Year Resolutions Ideas
How-To Accomplish Your Resolutions:
1. Pick 1 goal or "resolution" from each of the below categories. You should have 4 starting goals for the new year.
2. Set the "frequency" or how often you'll be accomplishing your goal.
3. Track your progress towards mastering your goal. Once you've mastered 1 goal, you can then select another goal from that same category. If you fall off on a goal, go back to mastering 1 before adding more on.
4. Look back on all you've accomplished at the end of the year!
Health & Wellness Resolutions:
1. Drink 8 glasses of water daily.
More water is a new years resolution that everyone could add to their list! It's one of the most important & once you've added it to your routine, it's easy to remember. I love this water bottle because I only have to fill it up 3 times to get my daily water intake!
2. Exercise for 30 minutes daily.
This could be a brisk walk during lunch or whatever kind of workout you prefer!
3. Try 1 new healthy recipe weekly.
Pinterest is a great place to source some healthy recipes. I also love this cookbook for easy inspo!
4. Reduce your sugar intake.
Reducing my sugar intake changed SO much about my health. Start small and build your way up. I started by cutting out all added sugars in foods!
5. Stretch for 15 minutes daily.
This resolution idea is a game changer! Stretching can change so much about your body composition & any pain point areas. You could start or end your day with this new routine.
6. Walk 10k steps daily.
This "trend" was the best thing to come out of the last year! I am OBSESSED with my walking pad. It's so easy to bring along for weekend trips or use when watching TV. A good walking pad is the unlock to accomplishing 10k steps in my opinion.
7. Reduce screen time by 1 hour daily.
Everyone could benefit from getting off their phone more! This is an easy way to measure & hold yourself accountable to that goal.
8. Get 7 hours of sleep at least 5 nights weekly.
This might be the best starting place for a health new years resolution. Sleep impacts everything & taking it seriously has helped me tremendously. I love using my Oura ring to track and understand my sleep (& general health) more!
9. Cut out caffeine.
Don't freak out. Maybe start with a reduction of 1 cup of coffee, energy drinks in general, or cut out of the 4 espresso shots on your latte. Baby steps.
10. Reduce your fast-food intake.
We all know it's not the best for us. Progress can be small at the beginning. Maybe you're cutting out 1 weekly stop & replacing it with a healthy home cooked meal. Whatever you can manage consistently!
11. Start your morning with 30 minutes of no phone.
Protecting our morning with some phone-free time is a phenomenal resolution for the new year!
12. Attend all of your annual health check-ups.
The only way to help prevent future health issues is to actually attend our preventative care appointments. Go establish with that new doctor or see your regular physician. You know it's going to feel good to check it off your list!
13. Learn/try a new sport or physical activity.
This could be anything! If you're not super "sporty" a great beginner-friendly activity is pickle-ball! (It's also super fun if you're really athletic too!) These are my favorite quick-ship pickle-ball paddles!
14. Cut out all weeknight alcohol.
The studies around alcohol are shocking. Maybe a complete elimination isn't practical for your lifestyle (totally understand that!). If that's the case, consider cutting it out during the week or 1 weekend a month. Whatever a reduction looks like to you, is major progress!
15. Increase your protein intake.
More protein is going to keep you full and energized longer. This goal instantly supports any other goal you may have. Adding a great tasting protein shake to your routine is an easy way to make this goal a reality! 100g of protein daily is a great place to start.
Financial Resolutions:
16. Create a monthly budget.
Once it's done you'll have a place to track your personal goals and spending! There are tons of free existing templates online too!
17. Start an emergency fund.
No one thinks it'll happen to them, but when disaster strikes money is the last thing you want to deal with. Pop it in a high-yield saving account & let it build up interest. (SOFI is awesome for high-yield savings accounts - we've used it for years & you can get a free $25 bonus with this sign-up link!).
18. Pay off one piece of debt.
My recommendation is the highest interest or highest value first! It's going to feel amazing when you get it wiped out!
19. Unsubscribe from all unnecessary subscriptions.
Let's be honest, the only reason you're still subscribed is because you haven't had the motivation to deal with it. Make it a resolution and check it off your list!
20. Start a retirement account.
If you don't have a retirement plan yet, it's never too early to start. Do some research & find out what's best for your financial situation & start contributing. Even a small contribution will help get the ball rolling!
21. Start a side hustle for additional income.
Additional streams of income is such an unlock for financial growth. Find something you're good at & set aside a few hours a month or week. Maybe selling something on Etsy/FB Marketplace, babysitting, or cleaning an AirBnB on the weekends?
22. Read a personal finance book.
Learning from someone who's well-versed in personal finance? It's an easy resolution you can knock out week 1 & gain a ton from it!
23. Negotiate wifi & internet for better rates.
Let's be honest, we're all dragging our feet on this one. If you don't know, your internet/wifi (& much more!) are all negotiable. They've probably been raising their prices every couple months, so spend 15 minutes calling to get it brought back down.
24. Purge your home & sell items on Facebook Marketplace.
Nothing feels better than a good clean-out. Go through those closets & the basement, and list everything you haven't used in the last year. It's a great way to make some extra cash and make your space more enjoyable.
25. Create a weekly meal prep budget.
Health & wellness meets personal finance goals! This is a practical way to save money while making yourself healthier.
26. Open a high-yield savings account.
High-yield savings accounts are the secret to growing your money! It's insane how quickly they build up interest. SOFI is my absolute favorite for a HYSA. You can have up to 7 "vaults" or sections in your savings account for specific goals (& it's totally free to do!). Contributing $20 a paycheck to that Europe trip will add up quick!
27. Review spending & credit cards weekly.
If you have an avoidant personality, this is a great place to start. Just getting visibility into your finances/spending will help you to start thinking about your spending differently.
28. Set 1 "no-spend" weekend each quarter.
It's simple. 1 weekend, each season, where you spend absolutely no money. No gas, eating out, nothing. Watch how much it saves you over the course of the year.
29. Stop impulse purchasing.
Whenever you're planning on making a purchase, take 24 hours to think about it. If the purchase still makes sense a day later, go ahead and buy it. If not, skip on it.
30. Double your donations!
Most financial goals are about "getting money". Make yours about how much you can give this year. We made this goal a few years ago & celebrating this accomplishment felt amazing!

33. Call a parent weekly.
A resolution that you'll never regret.
34. Spend 1 day monthly unplugged from social media.
Social media is so engrained in our day-to-day. Simply unplugging for 1 day a month can make a massive difference in our moods.
35. Plan a monthly family Zoom.
This is such a fun way to get everyone connected! It doesn't need to be anything special, cook dinner together and just chat during your weeknight evening. Everyone will appreciate you planning it!
36. Learn your partner's love language.
Take the love language test & learn how you can be a better spouse/partner for your loved one!
37. Volunteer monthly with a loved one.
This is a great way to make new connections while volunteering & also build a deeper relationship with someone you love!

This could be at any point during the year! It's going to be a special legacy you can look back on for years to come.
39. Say hi to someone new every day!
If you're looking for a new way to build confidence and be more positive, this might be the resolution for you! It's simple, thoughtful, and a great way to think outside of yourself.
40. Host others once a month.
Opening up your home is one of the most considerate things you can do for the relationships in your life. Hosting doesn't have to be a massive production, maybe it's a pizza night or maybe a dinner party. Whatever you can swing that month will be appreciated. Make sure to mix up your guest list each month!
41. Read a relationship focused book.
If you're looking for a good place to start, I love this book for marriages!
42. Resolve a conflict with a loved one.
Make this year the year that you repair that strained relationship. Whatever happened, forgiveness is attainable. If you feel slighted, you can still take 100% accountability for your 10%. Be the first to apologize/start the conversation and see where it goes. You'll feel amazing after this one.
43. Learn a family recipe from a parent or grandparent.
Learning a family recipe is such a special way to make your parents or grandparents feel loved. It reminds them that a part of them will always live on in your family. Recipes create legacy in a family, so this is a great way to build up the relationships in your life this year.
44. Make 1:1 time for each child (or parent if you don't have kids yet!).
It's easy to lump the whole family in together. Making 1:1 time for people will have them feeling so loved!
45. Compliment someone daily!
I always remember the compliments strangers have given me! Putting that positivity and joy into the world is infectious!
Spiritual Resolutions:
46. Start your morning with 5 minutes of gratitude.
A grateful heart is one of the best things you can have. Challenge yourself to spend 5 minutes in gratitude before your feet hit the ground in the morning!
47. Read The Bible in a year.
You could do this a multitude of ways! You can read it chronologically or there are tons of plans (in The Bible app, on Pinterest, in the back of most Bibles, etc.) that cater to different reading styles. Pray for understanding and wisdom before reading & see what you learn this year!
48. Read a new spiritual book monthly.
If you're looking for a recommendation, I love this book for women & this book for men! They're super fun to read alongside one another too!
49. Get connected to a local church.
Finding a local church is an amazing way to get plugged into your community! Hop around until you find the right fit for your family & then see how you can best serve others in your hometown & beyond.
50. Build a trusted group of friends.
Community is so important to our spiritual health. Find a trusted group of people that you can depend on for good advice. This might take some time, so continue praying about it as the year continues.
51. Spend more time in prayer.
There is no better way to grow spiritually than spending time speaking to God. This doesn't need to be formal & fancy, just speak to Him more during your day. I love to do this by sharing all the gratitudes I have during the day with Him.
52. Walk outside daily.
Spending time in God's creation is unmatched. Just 5 minutes a day can change our perspective so much.
53. Commit to monthly volunteering.
Giving to others changes the way we look at our daily life. This resolution is bound to give you so much more than any financial or health goal ever could. Bonus points if you bring loved ones along!
54. Consider tithing or giving more.
If God has put financial giving on your heart this year, continue giving even more. Our generosity is one of the best ways to get more connected to our Creator. You can never out-give God. Be generous & watch how He blesses your life.
55. Forgive those you haven't.
Forgiveness can happen without the other person knowing. In your heart, work to forgive those who have wronged you. It might be difficult, but it's a powerful way to grow closer to God.
56. Memorize a new Bible verse weekly.
There is profound peace and wisdom to be found in the word of God. Memorizing new verses regularly will allow you to have more personal peace and provide better advice to others.
57. Dedicate 1 day weekly to rest.
This can be a challenging thing to do in our busy world. Carving out this time is demonstrated by God himself. Rest is a good & necessary thing, so making this a resolution might be a great idea for you!
58. Remove fear-mongering media.
Whether it's the news, certain social media, etc. it's time to cut it out of your daily routine.
59. Start a daily devotional.
This is an easy way to start your day off closer to God. I love this devotional called Jesus Calling - it's great if you have a busy morning most days.
60. Read 1 chapter of The Bible daily.
If reading the whole Bible feels overwhelming, start with 1 chapter a day. It takes about 15 minutes & it's a great way to start your day!
