Pre-Move Out Preparation
Schedule Movers or Rent Moving Truck
If you are planning on hiring movers, make sure you get that scheduled soon! You want to ensure they have availability. Otherwise, you can work on renting a truck for your move.
Sell & Donate Unwanted Furniture
You don't want to skip this step! Look at the furniture that you have now and see if it would work in your new space. If it doesn't, sell and donate it now! This will save you so much time and effort during your move.
Change Renters Insurance
This is a super easy step! All you need to do is contact your insurance company to let them know you are moving. Adjust anything on your policy that is needed for your new home. Out of all items on this moving out checklist, this one takes barely any time!
Contact Utilities Company To Arrange Date
Don't forget to do this, or you will be wasting money! You can do this fully online for most services or call. All you need to do is decide on your shut off date & enter in your new home address.

Contact Wi-Fi Company To Arrange Date
Make sure you figure out what Wi-Fi is in service for your new home. You will need to shut off your current one. Make sure you return your equipment too, so you avoid getting a charge.
Change Your Address For The Post Office
You can typically do this all online or call if you have any questions. Make sure you swap your address to ensure no mail is getting delivered to your old address.
Change Address On Your Driver's License
Swap out your address on your license! You can typically do this online, so you don't need to waste time at the DMV. You don't need to do this immediately, but it definitely needs to be done shortly after your move!
Update Car Insurance With New Address
If your car insurance and home owner's insurance is with the same company, you can do both at the same time. Make sure to adjust your new address because this could impact the cost and coverage with your new area.
Moving Essentials
We have all ran out of packing tape before, so don't make this mistake! You will be surprised with how much you will actually use.
You can get boxes just about anywhere, but we typically use Uhaul, Lowe's, or Home Depot boxes. Some moving companies and truck rentals offer free boxes, so check with them first!
I love using stretch wrap when I don't want to fully unload or unpack something! For example, I use stretch wrap for my utensil holders, so I don't need to take all of them out.
You would be surprised at how much bubble wrap you need for all of your fragile items! I always recommend using up your towels first to save money on bubble wrap. You will want to make sure you have enough for all of your kitchen dishes as well as fragile decor pieces.
A labeler is my best friend! They are super cheap but will keep you so organized! You will use this a ton on your move and even when you are unpacking.
Make sure you have plenty of garbage bags! You will use these before the move when you are cleaning out every room. I also use garbage bags for my clothes, so I can keep all of them hanging up on the hangers.
Furniture sliders are perfect for all of your bigger furniture pieces! Placing these sliders underneath your furniture will make moving so much easier.
You can never have too many storage containers! If you are in need of some more storage, definitely get these before the move. You will save money on buying too many unnecessary boxes.
Don't forget to add this to your moving house list! I didn't know mattress bags existed until after I moved, and I am jealous of anyone that knew before me. These are perfect if you're wanting to keep your mattress clean and protected but also want to drag it during the move!
