Weeknights tend to run together at our house. Make a quick dinner, ask the notorious question “what do you want to watch”, clean the kitchen, repeat. You know the feeling… When you’re stressed with a million things on your plate, it can feel like a mountain to try to plan anything during the week.
That’s where I come in! Each week I post the ultimate guide for everything you need to “plan” the perfect weeknight in. My goal is to take all the mental lifting off of you, so that you can spend a weeknight connecting with someone you love!
This week we’re bringing the outdoors in! I love a summer night filled with all the outdoorsy things, but sometimes it’s nice to not have to shower off that campfire smell. This cozy evening is perfect for spending quality time with someone you love, all while scratching that summer itch. Check out the sections below for everything you need to know!
1. Indoor Camping Movie Night Materials
A home glamping packing list.
- The Parent Trap Movie – Or access to a streaming platform. Disney+ has it!
- Blankets & Pillows – Here’s my fav for 2 tall people! These are our primary bedroom throw pillows that I always bring out for movie nights.
- Foldable Mattress – We use this one for our transformable guest bed & for movie nights on the floor.
- A Sheet or Two – Large enough to build a fort/indoor tent.
- Your Phone
- Speaker – Here’s a go-to!
- S’mores Necessities: Graham crackers, chocolate bars, and marshmallows.

2. Campsite-Worthy Food & Drink
Would it even count as camping without s’mores? A couple snack ideas below, but go with whatever nostalgic camping food you love!
- OG S’mores
- S’mores bars, dip, or cookies
- Grill-out type food: hotdogs, hamburgers, brats, etc.
- BBQ chicken
- Cowboy caviar is a summer staple for us
- Oreos with peanut butter or chili would be right on theme with the movie too!
For beverages – I like to pair camping with a beer or seltzer. We weren’t in the mood for a drink this week, and instead opted for Evian to stay on theme with the movie. If you know, you know…
3. Convo Starters That Build Connection
After a long day at work, it can feel laborious to be the catalyst for a good conversation even when you’d love to have one. Below are some convo starters to pair with this weeknight-in.
- If you could go on a camping trip anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?
- What are some outdoor activities or adventures you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t had the chance to yet? What’s stopping you?
- What are your top 3 nostalgic/comfort movies? What do you love about them?
- Do you have a favorite constellation? Why?
- How does being outside make you feel? Have you always felt that way?
4. Indoor Camping Movie Night Logistics
Set-Up:
- Set up your movie viewing spot, make-shift tent, & pull up The Parent Trap or another nostalgic camping movie.
- Set your lighting. We did the fireplace setting on our hue lights! It feels like we’re sitting around a campfire at night.
- Gather your snacking supplies & your drinks.
During:
- Use the skyview app (I use the lite – free version & it’s great) to look at constellations and planets.
- Do any other nostalgic camping activities you love.
- Enjoy your s’mores, movie, & good convo.
- If you’re feeling up for it, maybe sleep in your tent for the night! Or at least sit quietly & play some nature sounds for a bit after the movie. It’s so relaxing.
Remember, the best part of camping is being present and enjoying each other’s company. So put away those distractions and disconnect as much as possible.
Notes
Camping at home doesn’t require pitching a tent in the wilderness. With a little creativity and some simple materials, you can transform your living room into a cozy campsite for an unforgettable evening together.
As always, make this weeknight-in idea your own! Add to it, skip stuff, whatever feels right for you. Whether you keep it simple or dive all the way in, like us, I hope you have an amazing weeknight-in!
