The Best Taco Tuesday Date: A Weeknight-In Idea
Weeknights tend to run together at our house. Make a quick dinner, ask the notorious question āwhat do you want to watchā, clean the kitchen, repeat. You know the feelingā¦ When youāre stressed with a million things on your plate, it can feel like a mountain to try to plan anything during the week.
Thatās where I come in! Each week I post the ultimate guide for everything you need to āplanā the perfect weeknight in. My goal is to take all the mental lifting off of you, so that you can spend a weeknight connecting with someone you love!
Taco nights are frequented in our house, so it’s an easy way to take a standard weeknight & make it special. We’re talking DIY marg bar, getting creative with guac, and of course an on-theme movie. Everything you need to put this taco Tuesday date night together is below!
Materials: What you need for a taco Tuesday date night…
- Coco Movie ā Or access to Disney+.
- Blankets & Pillows ā Hereās my fav for 2 tall people! These are our primary bedroom throw pillows that I always bring out for movie nights.
- Foldable Mattress ā We use this one for our transformable guest bed & for movie nights on the floor.
- Your Favorite Guac Fixings ā Whatever you like! Avocados, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, etc… We used our new GIANT molcajete (mortar & pestle) & to say that I’m obsessed is an understatement. This is my new favorite kitchen item.
- Margarita Bar Goodies – Think cucumbers, cilantro, orange, etc. anything to create a unique and fun margarita. You’ll also want some serving materials to lay everything out. I used my favorite ramekins from Amazon, and the appetizer plates from our plate line from Crate & Barrel.
- Speaker ā We use our Alexa & love it!
- Bartender Materials: This is our bar set from Amazon, it has everything you could need to made a unique margarita. These are the rocks glasses we used (& use for just about everything!)

Food & Drink: A complete taco Tuesday menu
Depending on how many people you’re feeding, feel free to knock a couple of these off. (Just not the marg bar & guac if you ask me…)
- Tacos – Obviously. You can go with something OG, or switch it up. We kept it more simple for an easier night, but if you want to try something unique I love making shrimp tacos. They’re relatively easy too! For ours we do a spicy shrimp marinade, a simple citrus slaw, some avocado creama and throw it all on corn tortillas.
- Guacamole – Again, whatever you typically prefer here. We recently bought this HUGE molcajete (mortar & pestle) that is perfect for salsas & guac. I’m obsessed with it because it’s big enough to make a reasonable amount of guac in & pretty enough to serve directly from it. In our guac we do the following: avocados, tomatoes, red onion, garlic, jalapeƱos, cilantro, fresh lime juice, and salt.
- Margarita Bar – Here’s the recipe to our OG margs we always make. Fill your DIY marg bar up with all kinds of different things, and start experimenting.
- Queso – I buy ours from Costco!
- Salsa – We’re still perfecting our recipe, so I’ll share once it’s done. There are tons of great recipes on pinterest if you want to go homemade!
Convo Starters: How to connect with your partner during the week
After a long day at work, it can feel laborious to be the catalyst for a good conversation even when youād love to have one. Below are some convo starters to pair with this weeknight-in.
- Were there any foods/drinks you refused to try or avoiding while growing up? Why?
- If you had to pick one margarita flavor that best represents your personality what would it be and why?
- If you had to give your DIY margarita a name what would it be? (Pairs with DIY margarita bar activity)
- Tell me about a friend or family member that has passed that you miss. What do you miss most about them? (Pairs with movie)
- What family member do you think you’re most like? Why? (Pairs with movie)
Logistics: How to plan a taco Tuesday date on a weeknight
Set-Up:
- Set up your movie viewing spot and movie (Coco!).
- Set your lighting. We do the candle setting on our hue lights! It went with the movie really well.
- Gather your guac & marg supplies.
During:
- Start making your guacamole.
- Set up your margarita bar fixings.
- Enjoy some appetizers while you each take turns making some DIY margaritas & going through a few question prompts. (My vote is that whoever is bartending has to go all-out full bartender mode!)
- Make your dinner if you’re ready.
- Enjoy your dinner, margs, movie, & good convo.
