Where Can You Install Beadboard Textured Wallpaper
You can use this wallpaper virtually anywhere in your home! It adds character to any space & it’s beginner friendly to install! There are lots of variations for beadboard textured wallpaper, but I chose this one for a couple reasons.
The primary reason was cost. For the amount of the roll we used, our kitchen backsplash cost us only ~$7! It’s also paintable and wipeable, so you’re able to customize the type of paint for the room. For example, you might opt for something with a higher shine for easier cleaning in the kitchen or bathroom. This wallpaper still allows you to do that!
As I mentioned, this project is SUPER beginner friendly. I can’t express that enough. It’s quite simple, but it’s very important you follow each step. Skipping any of the steps could lead to some trouble while installing. A simple step-by-step walkthrough is below!
Pre-Install:
Prep your walls by making sure your walls are clean. If you have textured walls, you might want to do a quick skim coat over them for smoothness. It may not be necessary depending on how textured your walls are. Our walls are pretty smooth, so we just did a quick clean beforehand.
Remove any outlet covers in the room. Make sure you turn your power off in the room (from the breaker box, not just the switch on the wall) before doing this.
Step 1: Measure & Cut Your Beadboard Textured Wallpaper
You’re going to want to start by measuring that area that you plan to install the wallpaper on. Once measured (be precise – don’t overmeasure), cut your wallpaper straight from the roll. If you try to cut this type of wallpaper when it is wet and on the wall, it WILL rip. Cutting it ahead of time also makes it easier to work with, so it’s a win-win for you!
Step 2: Dry-Fit & Complete Cutouts
Once your piece is cut, hold it up to the wall to ensure it’s the proper length. Make any adjustments if necessary. Check for any outlets on the wall. If there are outlets on the section of the wall you are working on, cut them out before wetting the paper. You can just use a small blade for this. Now you’re ready to install!
Step 3: Wet & “Book”
Sounds more difficult than it is. You are simply going to roll up the wallpaper so that the back is visible/on the outside. Submerge the roll, and while the roll is submerged slowly unroll it by pulling on two corners of the piece. Pull the piece out while ensuring all of the back gets wet. This process should be relatively quick, and the wallpaper shouldn’t be in the water much more than 5 seconds total.
Once the wallpaper is wet, lay it face down on a towel or safe surface. Then trifold it by bringing one edge to the middle, and then repeat with the other edge. They should meet edge to edge.
DO NOT CREASE/FOLD THE WALLPAPER. Just lightly fold the pieces in and rub them together, but do not crease or fold the edge.
Let it sit like this for 5 minutes.
Step 4: Install Your Beadboard Textured Wallpaper
Unfold your wallpaper and place it on your wall. Move the piece around using your hands until it is positioned where you’d like it. This will be super easy while it’s wet. Then use a smoothing tool (one is included in this set) to slide any air bubbles out from under the wallpaper. Keep gently using the smoothing tool to fully press the wallpaper to the wall.
Repeat steps 1-4 until your space is fully wallpapered!
Step 5: Paint & Final Steps
You’ll need to wait 5-7 days before painting the wallpaper. This allows it to fully adhere to the wall and dry completely. Once that time has passed, feel free to paint!
If you use the wallpaper as a backsplash, I’d reccomend using a finishing piece to make your edges look super clean. I used this one because it’s easy to install (it’s like a command strip basically!), & it’s waterproof. Our kitchen gets a lot of use and wet counters are inevitable, so I chose this to prevent the rotting that would happen with wood.
