Why Should You Consider DIY Home Decor?
Making your house a home doesn't happen overnight. Furnishing and decorating your home can easily feel overwhelming because of the cost and not knowing where to start. The biggest reason why I love easy diy home decor is because of the cost effectiveness. You also get to create one-of-a-kind pieces that nobody else will have.
DIY Home Decor: On A Budget
Vintage Gallery Wall
@ahousetohomey A good method to the madness. Make sure to save this for your next gallery wall! The key to a layered gallery wall is making it “perfectly imperfect” which does require some planning. You can go with the “wing it” method (which i do for most things), but for gallery walls I try my best to get it right the first time around. These are my tried and true go-to hacks. #homedecor #homedesignideas #homedecorhack #gallerywallideas #gallerywallhack #thriftedhome #vintagehomedecor #gallerywallhowto #h2h #h2hgallery ♬ Soulful Strut - The Fame Gang
A gallery wall is one of the easiest ways to add a ton of decor at once! If you have an empty wall, this is the perfect solution for your home. We did our vintage gallery wall in between a nook entering our primary bedroom.
DIY Headboard ($20)
Sometimes little home decor pieces don't give you the transformation that you are looking for. A statement headboard is the perfect DIY project to add onto your list. Since your bed is such a focal point in your room, this creates a big change. Here is exactly how I created our DIY headboard!
Seasonal Wreath
Creating a wreath for different seasons is a cheap DIY that anyone can do! Get creative with seasonal touches. I love making one for each season and holidays. You could even buy a cheap wreath and add faux florals yourself!
Faux Beadboard Backsplash ($20)
@ahousetohomey Replying to @Erin Mac Two major kitchen upgrades for under $40 total? Count me in every time. P.S. This DIY is insanely easy for beginners, but there are some necessary steps you don’t want to skip or things could get messed up quickly. I’m sending out a step-by-step guide for this beadboard wallpaper DIY in this week’s newsletter. If you need a big transformation in your kitchen, faux beadboard backsplash will be your solution! Backsplashes aren't cheap, so this alternative is perfect to stay on budget. If you haven't added backsplash to your kitchen yet, this will be the biggest decor upgrade in it!
Breakfast Shelf
Budget and space can be huge problems for a dining space, so this DIY breakfast shelf is perfect! If you have a small unused corner, you can hang a floating shelf. Add two barstools, and you just made a breakfast nook! Make sure to check the weight restrictions on the floating shelf.

Display Travels In Your Home
Travel souvenirs tend to be covered in dust but not in our home! There are so many unique ways to transform these into decor ideas. When we travel, we try to get a postcard from each location. You can frame these for decor! Here is how we displayed all of our travels in our home.
Framed Recipes

Your coffee station doesn't have to be boring! You can easily use decor to elevate this space. One of my favorite DIY decor ideas that we included in our home is a framed handwritten recipe. It's such a quick DIY project, and it adds so much to our coffee station. All you need to do is thrift a frame or repurpose one!
DIY TV Frame
@ahousetohomey This DIY TV frame took a total of 3 hours if you don’t count the days it sat untouched bc I was distracted by other projects. I think this is the easiest DIY with the biggest impact I’ve ever done! @Lowe’s #housetohomey #diytvframe #diyframedtv #tvabovethefireplace #easyhomediys #homedesign #tvandfireplace #samsungframedupe #samsungframetvhack #budgetfriendlydiy #easyhomediys ♬ Darling - Trees and Lucy
DIY Centerpiece
Centerpieces don't need to be super expensive! You can create a timeless centerpiece that will last forever. I love using faux florals to elevate it. My favorites are faux tulips from Amazon!
DIY Home Decor: Mistakes To Avoid
It's easy to get caught up in the DIY headspace and make simple mistakes! I've been there before, and it's defeating. It's much better to take a little longer on a DIY project than rush it, so here are best tips to avoid mistakes!
Over-matching Everything - If you focus too much on perfectly matching all of your decor it can make a space feel flat and sterile. It's good to have a mix of textures and colors, so your space feels homey.
Too Many Small Decor Pieces - I always say adding decor should be done in 3's. This will ensure you aren't adding too much at once that doesn't go together. Skip all the small decor pieces that make your space look scattered and messy.
Failing To Create A Focal Point - If you don't know what you are adding decor to, slow down! Make sure you have a focal point to build off of. This will make buying decor easier and make your space seamless.
Placing Mirrors In The Wrong Spots - Mirrors should not be facing a cluttered area! When you do this it makes the space feel so messy. Instead have it across from a clean simple space.

Overusing Trendy Pieces - We all love a good trend! I can't stress enough that you won't use trendy decor pieces for a long time. Try to find timeless pieces that you will use and repurpose for years!
Skipping Natural Elements - Plants and flowers are a must when it comes to home decor! You can even use faux florals to add a timeless element to your home. My favorite are these faux tulips from Amazon!
Neglecting Personal Touches - Don't get caught up in buying a bunch of decor without adding personal touches. I love displaying personal pictures and recipes in unique ways.
