Good Companion Plants For Strawberries

1. Thyme
Thyme attracts several beneficial insects while keeping away worms. Thyme also assists in keeping the soil from drying out which pairs great with strawberries. Thyme and strawberries are some of my favorite flavors for spring time!
2. Lettuce
Lettuce is a great compact plant to pair next to your strawberries. Lettuce is also a low feeder, so your strawberries won't be fighting over water!
3. Spinach
Spinach offers some of the same benefits as lettuce. Since both spinach and strawberries are harvested in the spring and have similar growing requirements, they are the perfect companion plant.
4. Asparagus
Asparagus is a great option because they don't get in the way of the strawberries! Both have similar growing structure. Asparagus roots are much deeper than strawberries, so they pair well together.
5. Cilantro
Cilantro and strawberries have the same bloom season which makes them a common pairing. Cilantro also attracts pollinators which helps with the strawberries progression growing.
6. Beans & Peas
Strawberries are heavy feeders, so they pair great with legumes since they fix nitrogen in the soil. With all the beneficial nutrients planting these by your strawberries can boost their growth.
Companion Plants To Avoid Pests

7. Onion
Onions have such a strong scent that will help repel certain pests from the strawberries. They grow well next to strawberries too, so this is a great option in general but especially to avoid pests.
8. Garlic
Garlic is a shallow-rooted plant that doesn't cause too much shade for your strawberries. They also won't be competing for water with your strawberries. The odor of garlic assists in masking the sweet smell of strawberries to protect them.

9. Oregano
Similar to other options that are potent, oregano also has a scent that masks the strawberry scent from pests. Oregano also attracts some beneficial insects that won't harm your strawberries!
10. Basil
Basil produces an oil that will assist in repelling pests that strawberries attract such as mosquitoes, flies, and more! Basil also grows well next to strawberries, so you won't have any issues there!
11. Sage
Sage disrupts sensory receptors in some insect pests which can protect your strawberries from the insects sniffing out their food! This is one of the best companion plants for strawberries because it grows well together & keeps the pests away.
Bad Companion Plants For Strawberries

12. Tomatoes
Tomatoes are prone to verticillium wilt (a fungus) that can spread to strawberries, so it is best to avoid pairing these next to each other! You'll want to stay away from all in the nightshade family to avoid any of these problems.
13. Melons
Melons large vines can outgrow and invade a strawberry patch and cause problems. They also may compete for nutrients and space with your strawberries. Similar to previous vegetables, melons are prone to verticillium wilt. I would stay away from any melon like watermelons and cantaloupes.
14. Cauliflower
Cauliflower and strawberries compete for the same resources which won't allow your strawberries to reach their full potential. Cauliflower can also attract pests that need to stay away from strawberries.
15. Fennel
Fennel inhibits the growth of plants around it and takes away flavor from surrounding plants like strawberries. Fennel is difficult to find the right companion plant because it doesn't grow well with most plants. I recommend keeping fennel away from your strawberries and other plants.
16. Kale
Similar to cauliflower, kale also competes for the same resources. You will want to avoid kale to ensure they don't stunt each other's growth. Kale can attract slugs that you will want to stay away from your strawberries.
