What Is Beadboard Wallpaper?
This wallpaper is a textured or embossed wallpaper designed to mimic the classic look of traditional wooden beadboard paneling. It features vertical grooves or "beads" that create a charming cottage-inspired look without the need for actual wood installation.
This textured wallpaper is available in paintable, peel-and-stick, and pre-pasted options. It's a budget-friendly way to add architectural interest to walls, ceilings, or furniture. Many homeowners love it for its ease of application and ability to transform a space for minimal effort.
How To Install Beadboard Wallpaper
Step 1: Figure Out Where You Want To Apply
Decide what room you want to elevate before you beginning other steps. We chose to use beadboard textured wallpaper for our backsplash because of our current budget. Once you establish which room, we can work on the other steps!
Step 2: Deep Clean The Wall
You will want to make sure your wall is a completely clean surface. There should be no wet spots before you begin applying. Ensure you wipe down the surface and dry before you move on.
Step 3: Make Adjustments For Outlets
If you are covering outlets, make sure you turn off your power first in your breaker box. You will also want to remove your outlet cover.
Step 4: Cut Wallpaper To Size
For your first cut make sure it's a rough estimate leaving an extra inch or two. This will leave you some room for any error.

Step 5: Dip Into Water To Activate Adhesive
To activate the adhesive, this step is crucial. You will want to dip the wallpaper into water for a couple of seconds. Once you take it out you will move onto booking.
Step 6: Booking take to sides fold into center - lightly - no creasing so glue sticks to itself
Booking is when you take the two sides of the wallpaper and fold them into the center. Do not rub your fingers along the side to make a crease, instead, you will lightly fold them in, so there is no creasing, but the glue sticks to itself on both sides
Step 7: Open Back Up After Booking
Once it's been booked, you will open it back up. You can move onto sticking it to the wall now. After it's stuck to the wall, you are able to gently move it if using real wallpaper instead of peel & stick.
Step 8: Gently Put In Place
My favorite part about real wallpaper is this! All you need to do is gently move it because it's not fully stuck to the wall. Make sure you move quickly and make any adjustments needed.
Step 9: Let Dry & Cut
After the wallpaper is dried to the wall, you will move onto the last step. Take a very sharp straight edge razor to run along the base to trim off any excess length.
Step 10: Painting (Optional)
We didn't paint our wallpaper, but this is a great option! Make sure you are painting in light strokes. The texture could get lost if you are putting the paint on too thick. The Walmart beadboard textured wallpaper that we used can be painted, but we preferred the crisp white!
Beadboard Wallpaper Renter-Friendly Tips
You will want to use Peel-and-Stick wallpaper options if you are renting. Using command strips are a great option, so the wallpaper isn't directly on the wall. You can also save the backing to reuse when you move out.
