What Makes A Good At Home Date?
A good at home date starts with intention. That's what makes it different from any old weeknight at home. For us that means NO phones, a themed date night, good food & drinks, & great conversation.
A huge roadblock for most couples is feeling overwhelmed by what it takes to actually plan a thoughtful at home date. We did the heavy lifting for you! All of everything we used, recipes, and convo starters are all included below.
10 At Home Dates
Step 1: Make Some Drinks! We made a jammy blueberry margarita! It's super easy to make & not too sweet. You can grab the recipe here. (P.S. there is a batch recipe too!)
Step 2: Start On Dinner! We went all out on the food! You can do any variation of these recipes (whatever works for your week!). We started with an arugula salad, then we made lobster rolls as our main, and finished with the cutest personal blueberry pies!
Step 3: Write A Message In A Bottle! Take some time to write eachother a "message in a bottle" that you can read at a later date. The decanter can act as a shelf styling piece if you want too! You can either write a message together for your future selves to open up down the road, or write a message to one.
Step 4: Play "Go Fish". A classic for a reason. This was a fun & easy activity to pair with a more involved cooking night. It was also perfect to jump in and out of during cooking!
Step 5: Go through the connection questions. Putting phones away is super important during this portion of the date. All of our connection questions are linked on this post at the bottom.
Step 6: Watch your movie & enjoy your snacks. We watched Safe Haven for our date, but here are some other movie ideas: Safe Haven, Baywatch, Jaws, 50 First Dates, Castaway, Mama Mia, Just Go With It, Pirates of the Caribbean .
Step 1: Pour Your Wine! We placed all of ours on a piece of paper to act like we are at a tasting!
Step 2: Watch A Wine Movie/Show! We watched "Uncorked" on Netflix.
Step 3: Tasting Notes! Take tasting notes on each wine you try. You can compare notes with your partner after.
Step 4: Quiz each other on some wine cards. We made the loser clean the kitchen after!

Step 1: Make Some Drinks! We made a creamy Piña Colada with this date! You can make it as a mocktail or cocktail. Grab the recipe for both here.
Step 2: Start on dinner and/or snacks. We kept it easy this week & went with some "beach snacks". We just filled up out snackle box (which we use at the beach!) with our favorite snacks & called it a night.
Step 3: Play the "snowball" game! How to win: get more "snowballs" into your bowl before the timer runs out. The rules: You can only move the cotton balls by using the straw to suck in & blow them out. We set the timer for 1 minute & did 3 rounds! (Loser has the clean the kitchen that night!)
Step 4: Set up your "beach". You can make this totally your own! We used our favorite foldable mattress & put some beach towels on top of it alongside our couch pillows.
Step 5: Go through the connection questions. Putting phones away is super important during this portion of the date. All of our connection questions are linked on this post at the bottom.
Step 6: Watch your movie & enjoy your snacks. Here are a few beach themed movies you might enjoy: Safe Haven, Baywatch, Jaws, 50 First Dates, Castaway, Mama Mia, Just Go With It, Pirates of the Caribbean
Step 1: Prep your snack & drink tray! We made Reese's "broomsticks" with pretzels, butter beer, & gilly water.
Step 2: Start your movie marathon! We've seen the movies so many times, so we did this Harry Potter puzzle while watching. When you're ready for a break, head to the Harry Potter website & take the quiz to see what "house" you're in.
Step 3: Go through the connection questions. Putting phones away is super important during this portion of the date. All of this week's connection questions are listed at the bottom of this post!
Step 1: Make Your Drinks! I should maybe say grab your drinks instead because we always have seltzers or beer when camping!
Step 2: Make Your Snacks! S'mores and grilled food are good staples to stick with!
Step 3: Set Up Your "Campsite". Set up your movie viewing spot, make-shift tent, & pull up The Parent Trap or another nostalgic camping movie. Make sure you get the lighting just right. We did the fireplace setting on our hue lights! It feels like we’re sitting around a campfire at night.
Step 4: Get In The Camping Mood. Use the skyview app (I use the lite – free version & it’s great) to look at constellations and planets. You can do any sort of camping activities that are your favorites!
Step 1: Prep Your Food & Drinks! We decided to keep it simple and make sandwiches! Pack whatever your go-to picnic snacks are. We made a Smoked Rosemary Lemon Elderflower Mocktail. It's Super simple to make ahead of time. Here’s how I make ours.
Step 2: Dive Into Connection Building Convo Prompts. Here are the questions we went through: If you only had one meal left, what would it be? If you could go on a picnic anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why? Would you describe yourself as artistic? Why or why not? What is one thing you would consider “art”, that other people might not? Do you feel like we slow down enough during the week? If not, how could we more?
Step 3: Set Up The Picnic & Painting Night At Home. Pack up your picnic basket with all your cold items. Head out to your backyard, a local park, or to your living room if you want! Cozy up your space with pillows & blankets. Lay out your food & your painting supplies.
Step 1: Set up the date! There isn't much set up for this date, so it won't take much time! Prep your dinner, but you don't need to make it quite yet! Grab your cozy blankets & mystery games.
Step 2: Start reviewing all the evidence. Once you've had a chance to review the evidence, you can begin cooking dinner. This is a great time to start discussing your thoughts and sharing ideas with the clues given.
Step 3: Enjoy dinner! You could turn on a show or movie. My favorites for this date are Only Murderers In the Building or Knives Out. You could also go through some Convo Prompts we shared on this post.
Step 4: Finish solving your case! Most can be finished in a night, but if you can’t quite get it revisit it the next night!
Step 1: Make some drinks! To play off the theme, we made a pink mezcal margarita! You can grab the recipe right here. Love is blind is all about how people's appearances don't always show who they really are on the inside. This drink appears very bright and looks like it would taste sweet, but it has a rich smokey flavor!
Step 2: Set up your "pods" & start playing the game! Get creative & set up your "pods"! You could tie your sheet to two barstools & make some cozy floor palettes to sit on. Once you've got your pods set up & have your drinks, start playing "let's get deep". Even after being together for years, asking questions in this setting was a really fun way to communicate differently!
Step 3: Blind watch or "regular" watch Love Is Blind. You can try a true blind watch by wearing blindfolds during the pod portion of the show, and remove them during the reveals! If that isn't for you, simply enjoy this season of the show!
Step 4: Ask your connection questions! Do you think love is blind? Why or why not? Would you ever go on a blind date? Why or why not? If we were set up on a blind date, how do you think your friends/family would describe you to me? How long did it take for you to feel like I truly knew you after we started dating? Do you feel "seen" by me in our relationship right now? How could I do a better?
Step 1: Put your phones away. We love this timed lockbox from Amazon.
Step 2: Set up the massage table, fragrance, and other materials. Select a playlist to listen to. (I always search "spa music" on Spotify). Watch a massage instruction video online if you need some help!
Step 3: Make some tea and relax. (Plug in that shoulder heating pad!)
Step 4: Go through the connection questions on this blog post & spend quality time together.
Step 1: Make some drinks! We made a classic Clover Club cocktail with this date! You can grab the recipe here.
Step 2: Start on dinner and/or snacks. Homemade hot honey pizza was on the menu for us. You can buy pre-made dough at the grocery store, simply add sauce, pepperoni, cheese & top with hot honey once it's out of the oven! We did chocolate covered strawberries for dessert!
Step 3: Begin writing your love notes. You can write these on your own, but if you prefer a prompt we loved these letters from Amazon.
Step 4: Go through connection questions. Putting phones away is super important during this portion of the date. All of this week's connection questions are listed on this post.
Step 5: Watch Your Movie. The Notebook is right on theme for this date! If you want something a little more lighthearted, 'To All The Boys I've Loved Before' is a cute option.
