What is Mod Podge?
Mod Podge is a popular all-in-one glue, sealer, and finish that is commonly used in crafting. It goes on white but dries clear, creating a protective, durable layer over surfaces like paper, fabric, and canvas. Because of it's versatility and ease of use, Mod Podge is a favorite for DIY projects. My favorite way to use Mod Podge is when creating a DIY faux oil painting for decor.

Vintage Landscape Downloads
Vintage landscape prints are such a popular style to use with Mod Podge because they give off an old-world and timeless feel. Think rolling hills, countryside scenes, or coastal shorelines with muted colors and painterly brushstrokes.
These downloads often mimic the look of traditional oil paintings and work beautifully when sealed with Mod Podge to create a faux canvas texture. Mod Podge Tips & Tricks
Apply At Once
You'll want to control the texture and prevent it from drying too quickly. Try to apply a layer across the whole print immediately.
Normal to Thin Layers
You will want to make sure you avoid any bubbling. If you apply thickly it could lead to bubbling. It's best to apply normal to thin layers.
Add Brushstrokes in Different Directions
Mimic the motion of traditional painting by varying your brushstroke angles for a more organic look.
Let Each Layer Dry Before Adding More
This will prevent smudging and gives more control over where you want to add texture.
Use a Printed Canvas or Photos
Start with a flat image printed on a canvas or cardstock to transform into a "painting." This doesn't replace a true artists work, but it's a great affordable option.
Seal it with Another Coat
After the texture layer dries, you can add a thin final coat to protect your work. This is not a required step, but it is a great addition to ensure protection.
Practice First
Test your technique on a scrap piece before your big project! This will ensure success and gives your room for any errors!
