Companion Plants: For Tomatoes

1. Carrots
Tomatoes and carrots pair well together for a number of reasons. Tomatoes generally offer some shade to carrots which can be needed. Carrots also aerate the soil which assists with tomatoes access to nutrients and water.
2. Peppers
Tomatoes and peppers both fall under the nightshade family, so their growing requirements are similar. Using peppers as your companion plant for tomatoes helps optimize soil conditions and they attract the same pollinators.
3. Marigold
Marigold is a great companion plant overall because of how low maintenance it is! If you need a low maintenance plant that thrives in heat while repelling some pests, marigold is the perfect option!
4. Asparagus
Tomatoes and asparagus pair well together, and they both offer benefits to each other. Asparagus repels nematodes which can negatively impact tomatoes. Since these are mutually beneficial to each other, I can't recommend pairing them enough!
5. Bush Beans
Bush beans are beneficial for the soil. Since tomatoes are such heavy feeders, pairing them next to bush beans is perfect because they increase air circulation.
6. Lettuce
Lettuce offers a number of benefits to tomatoes. Whether you are worried about weed control or enough shade for your tomatoes, lettuce has you covered. Pairing these two together will also keep the soil moist.
Companion Plants: For Cucumbers

7. Peas
Peas, beans, and corn all increase nitrogen in the soil, so this will allow a great environment for your cucumber to grow to their full potential.
8. Radishes
You won't want any companion plants that are competing for space with your cucumbers, so radishes are a great option. Radishes won't cause any problems with your cucumbers growth beneath the soil.
9. Corn
Corn is a super common companion plants for cucumbers because it offers shade to your cucumbers. Shade is super important for your cucumbers, so they don't end up with a bitter taste from the heat.

10. Carrots
Although carrots have deep roots, they are a great option for companion plants for cucumbers. Because of their deep roots, they break up the soil improving aeration and structure for cucumber roots.

Sunflowers are so pretty to have in your garden, and they work great with your cucumbers. Your cucumbers can improve by the pollinators that sunflowers attract. 13. Thyme

14. Lettuce
Lettuce is a great compact plant to pair next to your strawberries. Because lettuce is also a low feeder, your strawberries won't be fighting over water!

Spinach offers some of the same benefits as lettuce. Since both spinach and strawberries are harvested in the spring and have similar growing requirements, they are the perfect companion plant.
16. Asparagus
Asparagus is a great option because they don't get in the way of the strawberries! Both have similar growing structure. Asparagus roots are much deeper than strawberries, so they pair well together.
17. Cilantro
Cilantro and strawberries have the same bloom season which makes them a common pairing. It also attracts pollinators which helps with the strawberries progression growing.

Strawberries are heavy feeders, so they pair great with legumes since they fix nitrogen in the soil. With all the beneficial nutrients planting these by your strawberries can boost their growth.
