Ready For A Thoughtful At Home Date Idea?
If you’re new here… weeknights used to feel the same at our house. We would make a quick dinner, tune into some TV time, & then lights out without much connecting at all. To combat this, I started planning an at home date for my husband and I each week. I felt like the expectation to "get out of the house" & go on a weekly date felt more exhausting than enjoyable for us in this busy season of life. Instead, planning an intentional at home date made us slow down and connect in the place we're most comfortable.
Sometimes the date is more elaborate and sometimes it's more simple - every week is different! The goal is to find new & unique ways to prioritize the most important person in my life, and encourage you to do the same! This week’s at home date is massage themed. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Everything I Used For This At Home Date:
- Massage Table - My husband got me this for an anniversary gift this year. It has a good weight rating, it's super comfortable, the material cleans nicely, and it stores under our bed! It comes with all the attachments you need (face pillow, arm rests, storage pocket). We love it.
- Massage Table Sheets/Pillow Covering - We went with white which I like because I can bleach them. Only note, if you use massage oil or lotion that can yellow the white color over time.
- Oil Diffuser or Candle - Anything with a lavender scent always reminds me of a spa!
- Massage Oil or Lotion - We love this sore muscle massage oil from Amazon. It's been our go-to.
- Heating Pad - I love this one because it clips right onto your shoulders. I use it when working on my computer during the day too. It's great for extra relaxation before/after your massage & I always lay it down on the massage table first to warm it.
- Bolster Pillow - Tuck this under the fitted sheet to make your legs and back more comfortable during your massage. If you already own a lumbar pillow, no need to buy something new. If you need a new one, this one from amazon is great!
- Extra Blankets - You can throw any that you already own right on top of the sheets. Make sure you don't use any of your favorites in case they get any lotion or oil stains on them.
Activities: What To Do During The At Home Date
- Put your phones away. We love this timed lockbox from Amazon.
- Watch a massage instruction video online if you need some help!
- Set up the massage table, fragrance, and other materials. Select a playlist to listen to. (I always search "spa music" on Spotify)
- Massages!
- Make some tea and relax. (Plug in that shoulder heating pad!)
- Go through the "connection questions" below & spend quality time together.

@ahousetohomey Thinking it’s about time for some fall themed at home dates. What do we think? Connection Questions: • Would you consider yourself more “type a” or “type b”? Do you like this about yourself? Why or why not? • Do you think I manage stress well in our relationship? How could I improve? (More questions & a free planning guide on my website!)
