Pick A Peaceful Color Scheme
The best hotels, in my opinion, are the ones that you feel completely refreshed in. The color scheme is what sets the immediate vibe in a room, so it’s important to get it right.
Paint:
For our guest room makeover we painted the room “Gossamer Veil” by Sherwin Williams. It’s a warm gray/beige. Neutral while also being inviting and warm. I went neutral and bright with the paint because our guest room is quite tiny.
If you want your room to feel clean and fresh lean into light colors. If you’re going for something more romantic and moody lean into those darker shades. Neutrals are certainly not your only option for a guest room, so figure out what compliments your home best.
Fabrics & Textures:
The other focus of your color scheme should be through your fabric choices and textures. The key here is to select luxe fabrics with strong contrast.
To keep things bright I went with this white, striped, hotel-like, bedding set and these white blackout curtains. In order to contrast the bright base of the room I went with this gorgeous herringbone blanket as our bed footer. (I also used it to DIY our headboard cover!)
I brought in some richer brown tones through artwork and wood side tables. The key to a hotel-like room is repeating materials throughout the space. Doing so makes the room feel more custom or ordered, like a hotel room.

Focus On Bedding For A Luxurious Guest Room Feel
3 words. Fluffy. Clean. Simple.
For an extra fluffy bed the key is using 2 duvet inserts. To prevent your guests from overheating opt for an all-season duvet option.
I prefer hotel bedding to always be white. It allows me to vet the cleanliness for myself. Anyone else? While your guests won’t have this concern, I think it’s a nice touch in a guest room. A white duvet set just feels so fresh & clean! This is the super affordable set I ordered. (I’m obsessed with the subtle stripe!)
When guests stay over they’ll already be dragging in a million bags. Keeping the throw pillows & extras to minimum will help keep their space clutter-free. We went with one simple lumbar pillow and a footer blanket.
Consider Your Guests’ Needs
Channel your inner bellhop & add in those little luxuries. For us, that meant some thrifted trays to be a landing spot for earrings, wallets, and phones at the end of the day. We made sure to add some extra long phone chargers, a water carafe, coasters, extra books, and a little candy jar in case they get some late night munchies. Here are some of my favorite “hotel” guest room decor pieces!
Mix Old & New Decor In Your Luxurious Guest Room
For that boutique hotel look the key is a curated design. A mix of new and vintage decor pieces will help you achieve that look. There are no limits to your options here!
I loved pairing this modern boucle accent chair with the vintage fireplace mantle and decor! Another fun way we mixed new & old was with our light fixtures! I sourced some gorgeous milk glass lamp bases and topped them with a modern black lampshade. The result was beautiful! I sourced some similar lamp styles for you guys – they’re linked here!
