Murder Mystery Date Night
It’s finally time for some fall weeknight-in ideas! Fall makes me want to stay home and just enjoy my house. Anyone else? It can be especially hard to plan dates/family outings during the week, so we like to keep it simple and do one weeknight-in activity at home each week. This week we’re doing a murder mystery/detective night! It’s mystery themed without being scary (which is so not my thing). Read on for a full planning guide!
Materials: What You Need To Plan A Murder Mystery Date Night
You should have pretty much everything you need at home already. The only thing you might not have is listed below:
- Murder Mystery/Detective Game: We’ve tried out many & we love this brand. I rounded up a few goodies here in my Amazon storefront. They’re so fun – it feels like you’re working a real case, & you can do it all sitting on the couch. One game will be enough for the night, but you’ll go back for another. It’s insanely fun!
Food & Drink: A Full Date Night Menu
The activity will take up a majority of your time, so I’d reccomend a simple dinner for this date night. If you have a favorite soup or crockpot meal, this would be a great time to bust it out! Here’s what our menu looked like (feel free to steal it):
- 3-cheese grilled cheese on sourdough. I like to add a thinly sliced green apple to mine for crunch.
- Tomato soup. We like homemade best, but we went with premade to keep it simple this week!
- Spiced chai tea for our post-dinner detective work.
Like I said, we kept it simple & it was great!
Convo Starters: How To Connect With Your Partner During The Week
After a long day at work, it can feel laborious to be the catalyst for a good conversation even when you’d love to have one. Below are some convo starters to pair with this weeknight-in.
- Do you think you’d make a good & bad detective? Why?
- What was your favorite mystery book/movie growing up? What did you love about it?
- Who do you think is the more analytical one out of the two of us? Why?
- Were your adventurous as a kid or adventure-averse? Why?
- Tell me something you still find mysterious about me/something you’d like to know more about.
Logistics: How To Plan A Murder Mystery At-Home Date Night
Set-Up:
Not much set-up is necessary for this date night.
- You can prep all your ingredients for dinner, but wait to cook.
- Gather up some cozy blankets and your mystery games.
During:
- Start by sifting through all the evedience in your detective packets.
- Once you’ve made it through all your evidence, start cooking dinner. It’s a good time to start chatting about what you noticed and share ideas.
- Enjoy your dinner. While you’re eating you can throw on a mystery show/movie (I love Only Murderers In The Building & Knives Out) or you can go through some of the convo prompts!
- Get back to your case & work on solving it. Most can be finished in a night, but if you can’t quite get it revisit it the next night!
