Homemade Pasta Date Night
Learning something new together & enjoying food are two of my favorite ways to connect with someone I love. This checks both boxes! It might sound like a heavy lift for a weeknight, but it’s honestly not! It isn’t a crazy process, and it checks off entertainment & dinner for the evening. Here’s everything you need to plan a homemade pasta date night!
Materials: What You Need To Make Homemade Pasta
- Pasta ingredients (check out the menu section!)
- Wine: Here are my absolute favorite wine glasses – if they ever stop making them I will sob.
- Speaker: We always use our Alexa to double down on music and timers in the kitchen.
- A rolling pin or pasta roller: You can go with the rolling pin method, but I’ll warn you it’s a workout and VERY difficult to get the dough thin enough. We added a pasta roller to our cart right after date night! The pasta will be tough if it’s not rolled out enough, so you’ll need to get it extra thin! Here are my recommendations for different price points… Affordable Option: This one from Walmart is super cheap and has great reviews! Average-Priced Option: This roller is probably the most commonly used. Walmart has one of the cheapest prices currently. Investment Option: The Kitchenaid attachment is what I’ve been eyeing. It requires the least amount of work and has the most consistent results!
You likely have almost everything you need for this date night already. If you don’t, I have the items I personally used to create this date night linked in the “shop the post” section at the bottom of this post!
Food & Drink: A Full Date Night Menu
You guessed it. Pasta (& wine if you drink it!). Here’s a link to my favorite pasta recipe. It’s a wild mushroom ravioli, and it’s absolutely delicious. It’s the perfect amount for 2 people & a small amount of leftovers. If you’re anything like me, it’s the right amount of leftovers for a post-dinner, pre-bedtime snack quantity.
The pasta alone is pretty substantial, but if you’re looking for a slowed down dinner with an appetizer, here are a few recommendations. It would be great with a little bruschetta or honey goat cheese app. You could do a charcuterie board for 2 also!
For drinks, we paired our pasta with a Garnacha! Most wines would be delicious with this pasta dish, so go with whatever you prefer. If you aren’t a big wine person, an herbal mocktail would be delicious & pair well with the herbs in the ravioli filling.
Convo Starters: How To Connect With Your Partner During The Week
After a long day at work, it can feel laborious to be the catalyst for a good conversation even when you’d love to have one. Below are some convo starters to pair with this weeknight-in.
- Where in Italy would you most like to travel to?
- What is your favorite thing we’ve learned together?
- Tell me about your favorite thing that I cook?
- Do you think we try enough new things? What does “enough new things” mean to you?
- What is one new thing you’d love to try together? When could we try it?
Logistics: How To Plan A Homemade Pasta Date Night
Set-Up:
- You can portion out your ingredients, but don’t premix anything. It could mess up the consistency of the dish.
- Pour your wine & let it breathe while you set up. We also use this aerator instead of our decanter when it’s just the two of us having wine. It works ridiculously good for how cheap it is.
- Turn on some music. We love Frank Sinatra radio on Spotify.
During:
- Start making your pasta dough!
- While your dough is resting learn a new dance together. Youtube University is your friend here. Only give yourself the amount of time the dough is resting to learn as much as you can.
- Finish making your pasta & enjoying your wine.
- Try your dance again after dinner (& drinks) & see how much you remember!
